DD Science, an independent commercial laboratory establishment, is located at the Analytical Laboratory next to Cooke Metallurgical Process Plant, Randfontein, West Rand, Gauteng. DD Science provides support and advisory service to customers in the areas of water and wastewater quality and general environmental and analytical chemistry. DD Science is now a SANAS Accredited Laboratory and meets the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025
The origins of DD Science go back to 1986 when the Environmental Laboratory came into existence as part of the JCI mining group to provide a support service to Randfontein Estates and Western Area Gold Mines. When Randfontein Estates was taken over by the Harmony Group in January 2000 the Laboratory was privatised. A group of former employees decided to continue to provide a support service to the new mining group and initiated DD Science in November 2000, which now fulfils this function, but as an independent organisation which is exploring the commercial market.
